Portalul de date deschise al Italiei (www.dati.gov.it) oferă accesul la mai multe seturi de date geo-spaţiale în domeniul patrimoniului cultural cum ar fi Bella Lombardia (www.bellalombardia.regione.lombardia.it). Institutul Superior pentru Conservare şi Restaurare (Superior Institute for Conservation and Restoration) a creat şi întreţine în mod sistematic baza de date spaţiale denumită „Harta de Risc” (Risk Map) (www.cartadelrischio.it) operaţională şi distribuită care acoperă întreaga ţară, aceasta sprijinind activităţile administrative şi ştiinţifice ale instutuţiilor italiene responsabile pentru protejarea, salvgardarea şi conservarea patrimoniului cultural. Au fost deja implementate operaţional multe aplicaţii şi proiecte GIS în domeniul patrimoniului cultural în toată ţara. Situaţia actuală: a) toate nivelurile de implementare, de la local la naţional, b) tehnologia GIS este inclusă în cadrul infrastructurii informaţionale naţionale, c) aplicaţii GIS disponibile în mod public, d) domenii de aplicare principale: administrarea patrimoniului, arheologie, conservarea monumentelor istorice, managementul riscului
